What Does Getting Dental Implants Involve?
The process of receiving dental implants typically involves multiple visits spread over several months. Initially, X-rays and impressions of the jaw and teeth are taken to assess bone structure, gum tissue, and available spacing for the implant. Under local anesthesia, the implant is surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate for a period of up to six months. In some cases, a second surgery may be necessary to attach the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. However, certain implants come with an already attached post and anchor, which are placed simultaneously during the initial surgery.
After several weeks of healing, custom artificial teeth are created and fitted onto the post. This step may require multiple fittings, taking approximately one to two months to complete. Once the healing process is complete, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, delivering excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
Upon the completion of your treatment, you will receive comprehensive care instructions. Maintaining good oral hygiene, adopting healthy eating habits, and scheduling regular dental visits are essential for the long-term success of your new implant.
